Computer Won’t Boot — What Does It Mean?
A computer that will not boot can have a power problem, hardware failure, storage problem, Windows corruption, update failure, or startup configuration issue.
First identify what “won’t boot” means
- No lights or fans at all
- Power comes on but the screen stays black
- Manufacturer logo appears but Windows does not load
- Windows enters repair or a restart loop
- An error mentions a drive or boot device
Protect important files
If you hear unusual drive noises, see repeated storage errors, or the system contains irreplaceable files, avoid repeated restart attempts that may make recovery harder.
Repair vs. replacement
Some boot failures are software problems; others indicate hardware failure. Diagnosis should come before buying parts or replacing the entire computer.
